1 Peter 4:7-11
As you read through the gospels, you will find that around 20% of what Jesus spoke about had to do with his return. He was here once and he said he would come back. To live like the end is near is something that Jesus taught us we should be constantly aware of. We might think this is a morbid thing to do, but Peter tells us in his book that this is actually sober minded or clear headed thinking. How do we live like the end is near? We love one another, show hospitality to one another and use our gifts to serve one another.
Every child of God has been given a gift to use to build His kingdom. It’s easy for us to come up with a myriad of excuses as to why we can’t use our gifts. It could be selfishness, it could be laziness, it could be perfectionism, it could even be lack of desire. But we are constantly told throughout Scripture that we are to be faithful with the good gifts that God is giving us, for one day, Jesus will return and we must give an account for what we have been done with what we have been given. What we ultimately find is that there is true joy in using our gifts to serve one another, it is the end that all of us were created for.
