☼ HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK
SUMMER IN THE PSALMS
The theme of our Summer in the Psalms this week is “God is our Deliverer”. In our congregational reading we’ll read Psalm 121 together, and celebrate the truth that “our help comes from the Lord”. What a joy to have that confidence in God, our Deliverer.
IT’S SEPTEMBER!
There’s a lot to look at this week. Things start getting back into a groove as we enter a new season, plus our refugee couple has finally received an arrival date of September 24th and we need help to get them settled in. Here’s what’s on the calendar this month, so far; go to the events section for more details on what’s happening at Ness.

Our worship time begins with an opportunity for giving and to thank God for all He has provided for us.
Giving in person lets everyone take part and also models the practice of tithing to our children.
On the last Sunday of each month, we also take a benevolent offering. These funds are used to help individual needs within our community. Benevolent offerings should be clearly marked for Benevolence so that we can allocate them accordingly.
Individuals who wish to give in person should include your name and address on your envelope so a number can be assigned to you. Tax receipts are sent in January following the calendar year.

Each week we read a congregational reading together.
We are currently going through reading a portion from the Psalms each week, for the Summer. The Psalms serve to remind us of God’s faithfulness, and lead us to worship with joy and gratitude for the ways in which he works in our lives.

It is important for us to have our children see and learn the way we worship. It is also important for them to be given space to learn from the Bible in a way that is simple for them to understand, so that from a young age they can grow to know the mighty God that we gather for.
Children up to Grade 5 (Grade 3 in the Summer) begin in the service with us and then are dismissed to go to their classes after the congregational reading. Parents should take their children to Kidzone to sign them in.
Nursery is available for children up to age 3. The nursery is open before the service, and children are welcome to be checked into the Nursery at any time before or during the service. There is also a loft for parents with small children to watch and hear the service from a quiet space.

Each week one of our elders leads the church in a time of intercessory prayer for a specific need of our church or community.

Each week our Scripture is read by someone in our congregation who has been requested to serve in this way. Engaging our Ness Family is important to us.
We typically read from the English Standard Version (ESV) although sometimes other translations are used instead or as well.

Our message each week comes from the Bible. Usually messages at Ness are following a study through a certain book of scripture although we sometimes have guest speakers who will give a stand-alone message.

The service closes with a benediction from the Pastor or Speaker. After the service many people mingle and fellowship.

KIDZ CORNER
Not just for kids!
Adults and kids alike are welcome to download the coloring pages, watch the videos, and keep up with what’s happening in KidZone this summer. It’s a really beautiful curriculum from the creators of the Biggest Bible Storybook, and they’re learning about the prophets. Don’t worry, it’s not a spoiler. The class doesn’t intend to use these parts regularly so it is just a fun way to keep engaged at home over the summer, and hopefully spark some great dinner table conversations with your families.

Child Dedications are a time to thank God for the gift of children and to commit to raising them in the ways of God. It also allows your church committment to make the same committment to lead and guide your children faithfully, and to pray for your family as you carry this responsibility. Sign Up if you would like your child to be dedicated at this Service.
CHILD DEDICATIONS
Psalm 127:3 says “Children are a gift from the Lord”. Child dedications are an opportunity to thank God for the blessing of children, to recognize and commit this gift to His care, and to commit to raising our children in His ways, with the help of our church family. The church also joins in this commitment to love, support, and pray for the children of our Ness community.

Ali & Zahra are Iranian Christians who were actively involved in church leadership in Iran but in 2022 were forced to flee Iran as refugees due to religious persecution.
They’ve been in Turkey since that time, during which Ness has been able to sponsor them to settle in Winnipeg. We have just received word that they will be arriving on the 24th. this is wonderful news, albeit sooner than anticipated. There’s much work to do!
How can I help?
We need to set up an apartment for them before they arrive—a sign-up sheet will be available in the church lobby where you can help us prepare household items that they will need upon arrival. We will email a link for sign up as well, once it is available. Your help is appreciated as we welcome them to Winnipeg as a church.

We’re looking for another person who is able to help with tidying the sanctuary on a rotating scheduled. What’s involved? This would be a weekday task. The office provides a bulk supply of Connect Cards. Doodle Cards, and Pencils. You would just need to go through the sanctuary, and replace cards that have been written on, and replenish envelopes, cards and pencils in the seat backs. There’s also an electric sharpener to sharpen pencils once in a while if that is something you have time to help with as well. CJ Byrnes and Jeanette Olney lead this Life Group which meets regularly every other Thursday afternoon (Thursdays alternating with Helping Hands). They’ll be working through a study called “Grit Don’t Quit” which uses the Apostle Paul as a case study for “cultivating grit through every circumstance”. The first session for the season, is Thursday, September 10th at 1:15. All are welcome.
Life Groups will resume in the fall over Sept/October. If you are not currently in a life group, email the office to get connected in a Life Group this fall. Life Groups are a great way to grow in faith through fellowship with other believers in your church family. If you’d like to host a group in the fall, those opportunities are available as well. We’d love to hear from you. A special thank you to all of our current Life Group Hosts and Leaders!

We’re working on updating the Bulletin board in the foyer with opportunities to sign-up, and calendar items of what is coming up in the life of the church. Email the office if your ministry has an event you would like to have featured for the church, and let us know if information needs to be updated.

All of our missionaries have been recently updated on the bulletin board in the office wing. Stop by to learn about the Missionaries we support, and a reminder to pray for them as well. If there is a missionary you would like to support financially, you can make a donation and clearly indicate who it is for, or contact the office and we can assist you with finding information to support them directly.

This group meets on Thursdays bi-weekly for coffee, fellowship & crafting. Bring a project or join in on quilt making projects supporting local groups in need.

Our team we love to call the “Muscle Crew” could really use some extra hands for event setup. It’s usually a very quick task to setup or tear down but as the saying goes — “Many hands make light work”. If this is a way you can serve, speak to Jon Chapman or email the office to get connected.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The Marriage Course is for couples at any age or stage of marriage. Our schedules are busier than ever, and this can be an item that gets pushed to the bottom of the list without even noticing as time flies by. Sit down with your spouse and see if there’s a way to clear your Thursday night schedule for a few weeks in order to invest time in the human relationship that matters most. DETAILS HERE ►
Youth Workers & Nursery Workers annual volunteer safety meeting, after church. A 10 minute session to review safety protocols. All workers are required to attend in order for us to meet insurance requirements.
We have a special invite to join Grant Church for their mini-conference “Improve Your Serve” this year, and there is limited space so if you serve at church this is something you should be considering, and register ASAP. DETAILS HERE ►

As the final quarter’s calendar takes shape, we’re looking ahead to a Baptism Sunday on December 6th. Baptism is a way of communicating that you have a new identity in Christ. If you are a believer and have not yet been baptized, but would like to, this is a date to consider. Sign Up if you would like to be baptized or to attend baptism classes to see if this is a step you would like to take. Baptism classes typically take place early on the Sundays leading up to the event. DETAILS HERE ►

Regular Tuesday Night Youth and Sunday Morning Bible Studies have paused until fall. Special Summer Events are underway.
PRAYER REQUESTS
If you have a prayer request let us know. We’ll circulate it in an email that is sent to church members on Tuesdays. Send updates as well so we can be encouraged as God answers prayer.
