Read Mark 1:14-20
Consider these questions when reflecting on this message:
What is the significance of John being “arrested” (turned over) (v.14)?
How does this transition set the stage for Jesus’ ministry? In verse 15, what does Jesus mean by “The kingdom of God is at hand”?
How would his original audience have understood this phrase? In verses 14–15, Jesus proclaims, “The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe the gospel.”
What kind of repentance was he calling for and what might that look like for us today? How would you describe the kind of “belief” that Jesus is talking about here?
Jesus says, “Come, follow me… and I will send you out to fish for people.”
How were the disciples' lives changed? How radical was this call? The disciples “at once” left their nets and their father.
What “nets” (security, comfort, habits, plans) have you left in order to become a disciple of Jesus? The disciples responded immediately and decisively.
What is one step of obedience you sense God prompting you to take — and what is keeping you from taking it?
