NESS NEWS

Weekly update for our Ness Community

HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK

SUNDAY, MAY 31, 2026

Prayer Gathering | 9:30 AM

Board Room

Coffee & Fellowship | 10 AM

Before the Service

  • Our worship time begins with an opportunity for giving and to thank God for all He has provided for us.

On Communion Sunday we also take a benevolence offering. These funds are used to meet individual needs of those in need in our community. Just mark the amount under benevolence with your offering and it will be allocated to this fund.

Giving in person lets everyone take part and also models the practice of tithing to our children.

Individuals who wish to give in person should include your name and address on your envelope so a number can be assigned to you. Tax receipts are sent in January following the calendar year.

  • No Ministry Update on Communion Sunday

  • Each week we read a congregational reading together.

This week the leader will read the question:

“What are the Sacraments and Ordinances?”

In preparation for Sunday’s question, let’s ask, “What is the meaning of these words?” (ref: Merriam-Webster.com)

    1. Sacrament: a Christian rite that is believed to have been ordained by Christ and that is held to be a means of divine grace or to be a sign or symbol of a spiritual reality

    2. Ordinance: a prescribed usage, practice, or ceremony

Now, familiarize yourself with the answer we’ll read together:

“The sacraments or ordinances given by God and instituted by Christ, namely baptism and the Lord’s Supper, are visible signs and seals that we are bound together as a community of faith by his death and resurrection. By our use of them the Holy Spirit more fully declares and seals the promises of the gospel to us.”

    WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?

You can read where Jesus ordains these practices in Matthew 28:19‍ ‍and Luke 22:17-19

We’ll read this passage together that shows us how the early Church faithfully practiced this teaching:

“So those who received his word were baptized, [...] And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:41–42

  • We will have the opportunity to take Communion together this Sunday, in remembrance of what Christ has done for us. His body broken and his blood shed in order that we might have life. This justification is beautifully described in Romans 5, which ends with these words: “so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

SERVICE STARTS AT 10:30 AM

Nothing replaces meeting together as a church, but if you aren’t able to join us, use this livestream link to watch at home:

DOXOLOGY

The version of the Doxology we’ll sing includes a few extra stanzas from the hymn “All people that on Earth do Dwell”.

All people that on earth do dwell
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice
Serve him with joy his praises tell
Come now before him and rejoice

Know that the Lord is God indeed
He formed us all without our aid
We are the flock he comes to feed
The sheep who by his hands were made

O enter then his gates with joy
Within his courts his praise proclaim
Let thankful songs your tongues employ
O bless and magnify his name

Because the Lord our God is good
His mercy is forever sure
His faithfulness at all times stood
And shall from age to age endure

Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise him all creatures here below
Praise him above ye heavenly host
Praise Father Son and Holy Ghost

NOTICES

HELP WANTED  FOR KIDZONE THIS SUMMER

We are looking for volunteers to teach/help in our summer kidzone program. If you would like to be involved in this ministry, or if you would like more information, please email/text Candace Dunsire.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED  FOR EVENT SETUP

Our team we love to call the “Muscle Crew” could really use some extra hands for event setup. It’s usually a very quick task to setup or tear down but as the saying goes — “Many hands make light work”. If this is a way you can serve, speak to Jon Chapman or email the office to get connected.

PRAYER REQUESTS

If you have a prayer request let us know. We’ll circulate it in an email that is sent to church members on Tuesdays. Send updates as well so we can be encouraged as God answers prayer.
