1. What mentor or teacher has had an outsized influence on your life and path? Why so? What techniques did they use to teach you?

2. Before diving into Matthew 13, it is important to understand the use of parables. So, what is a Biblical parable and what is it used for? Is it simple or complex?

3. Why did Jesus use parables in His teachings? What effect did the parables have on the hearer, i.e., the crowds and the disciples?

4. Why did Jesus speak in parables to Israel? What was it a sign of? (See also Psalm 78:1-4; Isaiah 6:8-11.
