The Parable of the Sower - Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23

1. What are the characteristics of the soil along the path? Who in that day in Israel had hearts like that soil? Why do you think they were like that? Where do we find soil like that today?
2. What is the problem with rocky soil? What can cause faith in God to dry up and wither in our culture?
3. What happened to the seed sown in weedy, thorny soil? What are the common weeds and thorns that threaten us or distract us in this life?
4. What are the characteristics of “good” soil? Do you expect fruit will appear instantaneously, immediately and in huge abundance? How does a planted seed and our sanctification compare?
5. Are we always stuck in being one type of fruitless soil? Why or why not? How can we tend our soil so that it remains good? Where do we go for help and what should we ask for? (See Psalm 1:1-4; Psalm 104:14-18.)
