A Whole Lot of Name-Calling // 1 Peter 2:1-12

17 November 2024

1. What is your favourite restaurant and what’s so good about it?

2. Why would Peter use milk and new born infants together as a metaphor? What are we to learn from this image about us and God?

3. Why is Christ called a living stone? What should this imagery call to mind? (See also Psalm 118:20-23; Isaiah 8:13-15; Romans 9:30-33.) ( If you have time, see also Mark 12:1-12.)

4. Why are Christians called living stones that are being built up? What kinds of imagery would the people in Peter’s day have in their minds upon hearing this? What should we be seeing about ourselves individually and collectively in this imagery?

5. What was so radical and counter-cultural in that place and time in Peter telling Christians that they were a nation of priests, royal and holy? What are the implications for us today?

6. There is quite a list of identities and callings in this passage. Go ahead and list them out. Which ones amaze you or perplex you? How do they illuminate your worth and value to God and the church? How do they explain your overall identity?
