The Mysteries of the Kingdom // Kingdom Discipleship // Matthew 13: 51-58

March 9, 2025

1. What do you see as the primary values of our culture and time in Canada?

2. Why did Jesus tell His disciples that they should be “like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old”? What is the treasure? What is old? What is “new” (v 52)? Why should that be our way too?

3. Read Acts 17:22-34. Briefly describe how Paul brought out the old and the new, and spoke to the values of his culture and time? What was the response?

4. What are the 3 elements of Discipleship that were outlined in the sermon? How is Jesus more than a teacher to us? How do you as a Christian constantly learn?

5. Do you study the Old Testament or do you avoid it? Why so in either case? What do we learn about God in the Old Testament?

6. If you find a passage of Scripture difficult to understand or difficult to accept, how do you handle it? Where do you go for help?

7. Why was Jesus not well received in His home town? (v. 53-58) Which parable in this chapter do you think illustrates this situation?

8. What have you learned about the Kingdom of Heaven from these parables in Matthew 13? What do you find so valuable about the Kingdom?

9. How do we prepare and train for our mission? How do you find both the acceptance and rejection of the Gospel in the ministries of Jesus and Paul of help to you?
