Meeting God In Genesis // Genesis 3 (part 1)

27 April 2025

1. See Gen 1:26-29; 2:19-24. Why did God create Adam and Eve? What was the initial relationship between Man and God? Between man and wife? Between Man and Nature?

2. Compare Gen 2:16 and Gen 3:2. How was God’s word subtly changed and modified in response to Satan? If we do likewise our selves, how does this affect the power of God’s word in our lives?

3. How did Satan tempt Adam and Eve with half-truths and lies? What was ironic and tragic about his offers?

4. Compare Gen 3:6 and Luke 4:1-12. How were the first Adam and then Jesus, the second or ultimate Adam, tempted in the same way and with the same things? How did Jesus respond?

5. See the New City Catechism Questions 16 and 17. What is sin? What is idolatry? Why is sin so egregious, so vile and so horrific, even when it seems so “small”? What effects from sin are shown in 3:7-13?

6. In what ways does Satan and the world tempt us today, using what we have in God already, implying that it is not enough or that God is holding out on us?

7. See Rom 5:15; 16:20; 1 Cor 15:45-49; Heb 10:11-18. Why is it “In Christ alone, our hope is found”?
