The Wisdom and the Folly - How the Gospel Came to Naaman // 2 Kings 5:1-14

May 4, 2025

1. Have you ever felt that you deserved grace or blessings?

2. The slave girl’s family and village might have been destroyed by forces under the command of Naaman. Could we fault her if she held back recommending to go see Elisha? How did Paul deal with his jailer in Acts 16:27-31?

3. Naaman was a very rich, very successful, very important man in the Syrian empire. Why would he go to Israel, despised enemy territory, on the advice of a servant girl? What do you think he realized about himself and his world?

4. Naaman brought with him the equivalent of around 3.5 million in today’s dollars. Why was he so outraged at Elisha’s treatment of him and the simple instructions? What do you think he was expecting in regard to himself?

5. What compelled Naaman to listen and obey the direction from Elisha? What did he realize?

6. How was Naaman radically changed in his priorities and worldview? What evidence was there of this.

7. Why did Elisha refuse payment or gift? What was Elisha showing Naaman about God and Naaman about himself?

8. How does Naaman represent us and show how people come to Christ and are saved even today? (See also Romans 10:11-15.)

9. How prepared are you to share the gospel? If you are not a Christian yet, are you prepared to surrender and receive Christ as your Lord and Saviour?
