Mark 3:20-35 // A KINGDOM THAT STANDS // Pastor Jeremy Olfert

READ MARK 3:20-35
Consider these questions when reflecting on this message:
“Inside vs. outside” reflection: In this passage, there are people physically “inside” with Jesus and his family “outside.” Where do you most often find yourself—leaning in with openness, or staying at a distance—and what usually drives that posture (curiosity, skepticism, fear, comfort, pride)?
Discernment check: The scribes couldn’t tell the difference between the work of God and the work of Satan. What are 1–2 practical ways you can grow in discernment this week so you don’t “call evil good and good evil” in your own decisions, media intake, or conversations?
Grace and the fear of “unpardonable sin”: The sermon says that being worried you’ve committed the unpardonable sin is evidence you haven’t. When you feel guilt, anxiety, or spiritual fear, what helps you move from spiraling into self-focus toward repentance and trust in Jesus’ forgiveness?
Redefining “family”: Jesus teaches there is a deeper bond than flesh and blood—those who do the will of God are his true family. What would it look like for you to treat your church community more like family in a concrete way (time, vulnerability, hospitality, practical care) this month?
Cross-cultural kingdom relationships: The sermon describes experiencing a powerful bond with believers from very different cultures (language, food, background), united by love for Jesus. What’s one step you could take to widen your “family” circle—welcoming or learning from believers who are different from you?
Family priorities + home worship: The sermon warns that even good families can become idols (“familial narcissism,” “domestic idolatry”) and calls homes places of worship—prayer, discipleship, and love shaped by loving God first. What is one specific habit your household (or you personally, if you live alone) could start this week to re-center life around worship and obedience to Jesus?
